AmCham Slovenia Members’ Help to people affected by floods in Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia

This month was marked by an emergency situation in a large area in our immediate proximity. People from Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia found themselves in the grip of floods, humanitarian action took place all throughout Slovenia. At one of the largest natural disasters in the region, also AmCham Slovenia called for financial and material help to its members in the initiative “Without big words – LET’S HELP!”. Moreover, a special action was initiated by the participants of 4th generation AmCham Young Professionals Program, where they tried to activate and include as many colleagues as possible in the organizations they are employed in.

In this catastrophic situation, Slovenes have shown that we are able to organize a quick humanitarian and professional help. We are truly glad that also our members were a part of this story and have widely responded to our initiative. The following companies immediately responded by saying that they had already organized aid inside their organizations, took part in the local initiatives or donated funds through other humanitarian organizations: UniCredit Banka Slovenija d.d, Zavarovalnica Triglav d.d., BTC d.d., Atlantic Grupa d.d., Medis d.o.o., Pristop skupina d.o.o., Airpass d.o.o, SAP d.o.o., KPMG, Mercator d.d., Kaval Group (BID d.o.o), Jezeršek d.o.o., Mondelez d.o.o., MARS Overseas Holding d.o.o., Fluidmaster d.o.o., D-IMEX d.o.o., Knauf Insulation d.o.o. We were very glad to receive direct aid from the companies: Adecco H.R. d.o.o., IBM Slovenija d.o.o., Aviat d.o.o., S&T Slovenija d.d. and Pfizer, which contributed with either bank transfer or materially via AmCham Slovenia, who made sure in cooperation with colleagues from AmCham Croatia and AmCham Serbia, that the aid came into the right hands.

Meanwhile, there was also an initiative of the 4th generation AmCham Young Professionals, who proudly announced their action to be more than successful. They collected two full vans of of most urgent things to deliver them to those in need. They want to sincerely thank to the next companies: Aviat, Bent, MSD, Studio Moderna, and employees of GBD BPD from Kranj. AmCham Young Professionals contributed beverage and other aid collected by each individuals. Everything was sent from SKC Danilo Kiš in the city of Bosanski šamac, which has not been given any assistance yet. Appreciation letter together with photos was posted on the Facebook page of event “Campaign to raise aid for the people affected by floods in Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia.” (“Akcija zbiranja pomoči ogroženim v poplavah v Srbiji, BiH in Hrvaški”).

We should however not ignore the fact that the circumstances in the affected areas are still terrible, and that the damage caused by floods will have to be addressed even years after the disaster. Therefore, we finally encourage our members to continue to follow the situation and be willing to further assist those in need.
