To help speed up the restoration of the forests that were damaged by this year’s glaze ice, the Scout Association of Slovenia and Slovenia Forest Service launched a social responsibility project under a joint name “Let’s Restore Slovenian Forests”. During the last natural disaster that struck between January 30 and February 10, 2014, Slovenia experienced the overwhelming power of nature as glaze ice impacted half of all forests in the country.

Project Stages

During the first stage of the campaign, we will use SMS messages with keyword GOZD to gather as much funds as possible in order to purchase tree seedlings. A single SMS message contributes 1 euro used for the purchase of one seedling. The charity fund is managed by Zdenka Čebašek Travnik, the former Human Rights Ombudswoman. In the autumn stage of the charity campaign, we will work with volunteers and other socially minded citizens to plant the acquired seedlings in forests. The planting will be supervised by the Slovenia Forest Service.

Restoration Costs

The cost for restoring approximately 2.5 acres of a forest is between EUR 3,000 and 5,000. Therefore, we are calling upon all individuals and companies that would like to support our campaign by sending keyword GOZD in an SMS message to 1919 and contribute 1 euro for one seedling. We must keep in mind that each visit to the nature is beneficial and that any noble action is worthy of goodwill! Join us!
