AmCham Slovenia at the 6th Conference on Law of Information Security
At the 6th Conference on Law of Information Security, organized by GV Založba, AmCham Slovenia actively contributed to shaping the dialogue on key issues concerning the future of the digital society. The roundtable titled “Rules of the Game in the Digital Ecosystem — What Does the Future Hold?” was moderated by Vida Dolenc Pogačnik, COO & International Cooperation Director at AmCham Slovenia. The dynamic discussion featured Melita Šinkovec, MSc, Head of the Sector for Information and Cybersecurity at the Government Information Security Office of the Republic of Slovenia; Jure Remškar, CFO and COO at SmartCom; and Igor Zorko, Director at ZZI and Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia (GZS).
The conversation tackled essential questions of today’s digital environment — from the influence of states and big tech companies on digital rule-setting, to regulation, cybersecurity, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. Participants emphasized that the future of the digital world requires a balanced collaboration between lawmakers, industry, and civil society.
Special emphasis was placed on education and the urgent need to raise digital literacy. In Slovenia, computer science and informatics currently represent only 0.6% of school hours in primary and secondary education. Therefore, the planned introduction of a new mandatory subject “Informatics and Digital Technologies” in the 7th grade starting in 2028 is an important — yet only initial — step. This move reflects years of advocacy from various stakeholders, including the AmCham Ready 4D Future Committee, which has long supported the introduction of digital language as a core competence of the future — implemented comprehensively, developmentally aligned, and vertically integrated throughout the educational journey. Only with early and thoughtfully designed implementation of digital skills will we enable young people to become creators of the digital future — not just its users. Knowledge must be the foundation of the digital transformation, and school the place where children acquire it in time.
The shared conclusion of the discussion: The digital future will be secure, inclusive, and competitive only if we know how to connect knowledge, technology, legislation, and ethics. AmCham Slovenia remains committed to promoting digital competencies and co-creating a sustainable digital environment.
