At the October meeting of the AmCham Ready 4D Future Committee, hosted by Smartis, committee members, led by Co-Chair Boris Horvat (Abelium), discussed two topics that will significantly shape the future of Slovenia’s economy and society: cybersecurity and the development of digital competencies in education.

In the first part of the meeting, Jakob Matek (Smartis) presented the key changes introduced by the Information Security Act (ZInfV-1) and the NIS 2 Directive, as well as their impact on companies and organizations. The discussion focused on management responsibility, strengthening cyber resilience, preparedness for incidents, and the importance of regular cybersecurity exercises and crisis communication.

The second part of the meeting was dedicated to an initiative aimed at strengthening computer science, informatics, and digital competencies (RIN) within the Slovenian education system. Participants discussed how education should adapt to the age of artificial intelligence, how teachers can be supported in introducing new content, and how the business community can contribute to a faster transfer of knowledge and best practices into schools. The participants agreed that young people must be prepared for the future, not for a world that existed a decade ago.

The meeting sparked an important discussion on how Slovenia can keep pace with rapid change while providing support to teachers, schools, and other stakeholders. Participants agreed that the willingness to embrace change is already present, but the key challenge lies in finding effective ways to translate ideas into practice. Both cyber resilience and preparing young people for a digital future remain essential priorities for a competitive and forward-looking Slovenia.
