Members of the AmCham Finance Committee met today with Peter Papež, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, to discuss key issues shaping Slovenia’s economic competitiveness, investment environment, and the long-term sustainability of its financial system.

The State Secretary presented the Ministry’s efforts to ensure a stable and predictable regulatory and tax framework, enabling businesses to plan, invest, and grow with confidence. Participants also emphasized the importance of maintaining business conditions comparable to those in other European countries, ensuring competitive taxation of work, and supporting innovation, productivity, and foreign direct investment.

A significant part of the discussion focused on capital market development and the role of pension funds in financing economic growth. Participants exchanged views on the future evolution of the second pension pillar and explored opportunities to mobilize domestic capital more effectively to support business growth and long-term investment.

Special attention was also given to attracting and retaining talent, including the challenges associated with employing highly skilled professionals from third countries. Participants agreed that maintaining Slovenia’s competitiveness requires an environment that is attractive both to investors and to domestic and international talent.

Another key topic was the importance of open dialogue between the business community and policymakers. The State Secretary Peter Papež highlighted the Ministry of Finance’s role as a partner to the economy and emphasized the importance of financial diplomacy in strengthening Slovenia’s business environment, while committee members shared practical experiences and recommendations from the business community. The meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to identifying solutions that can contribute to a more competitive, development-oriented, and predictable environment for growth in Slovenia.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Žiga Vižintin, Co-Chair of the AmCham Finance Committee and Vida Dolenc Pogačnik, COO and International Cooperation Director and coordinator of the AmCham Finance Committee.
