Slovene and American families, business people, politicians and diplomats, all together enjoying relaxed atmosphere and socializing; this would be a short description of sports family picnic, which was organized on the 18^th of June by AmCham Slovenia in cooperation with the Embassy of the United States in Ljubljana.

The main event was watching the football match between Slovenia and USA. Each was cheering for his team, on could hear »who doesn’t jump is not Slovene« but also cheers of approval when US team scored. So that everybody agreed that final score 2:2 was still the most diplomatic solution.

Well-known Slovenes under the leadership of Zoran Janković, Major of Ljubljana have played soccer match on a smaller field and defeated US team with 6:0.

The Slovene team was stronger also in basketball. Under the leadership of the captain Aleš Logar played also Igor Lukšič, PhD, Minister of Education and Sport, and the final score was 32:14.

Spectators watched with interest both Obsession Cockta Skate Show and friendly soccer match between Embassies of United States and of United Kingdom.

And everybody was enthusiastic about original American food that employees from US Embassy were preparing.

ABC Šport organized animation for children and among other things also taught them the »waka waka« dance, which they then danced together with their parents before the symbolic handing over of the Cup of Victory »Zavarovalnica Triglav Slovenija : USA Sports Cup«

Executive Director Ajša Vodnik awarded the Cup which was manufactured by Steklarna Rogaška to the captain of Slovene team Tomaž Lovše, President AmCham Slovenia. Bradly Freden, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of US was happy to congratulate him.

All participants agreed that this sports family picnic could become traditional from now on.
