Dear members and friends of AmCham Slovenia,

Digital technology is shaping the way we work, communicate, learn, and live. Does it control us, or do we control it? The key question is:

“As a Society, Do We Speak the Language of the Future – Digitalian?”

At the May AmCham Business Breakfast, we will discuss the importance of digital knowledge and competencies as the new fundamental literacy. Do we understand artificial intelligence more than it understands us? To ensure the competitiveness of our economy, it is essential that young people gain the right knowledge and skills, that employees engage in lifelong learning, and that we include and empower all generations – even the “champions.”

  • 41% of adults in Slovenia have low digital literacy.
  • 3 out of 5 teachers in Slovenia believe they are not adequately trained to use modern digital tools.
  • 67% of employees in Slovenia fear that AI will replace their jobs.
  • Less than 20% of companies in Slovenia regularly invest in digital training for their employees.
  • 71% of companies in Slovenia face challenges in digital transformation, with 48% citing a lack of appropriate talent or knowledge as the main obstacle.
  • As of December 2024, there were approximately 938,400 working individuals in Slovenia. Of these, 19% were aged 55 or older, meaning that at least 177,900 working individuals belong to the “champions” age group.
  • Blaž Ferenc focuses on developing future-ready competencies, creating inclusive work environments, and finding a balance between technology and humanity. He has extensive experience in strategic communication and sustainable development.
  • Manja Klemenčič, Ph.D., is a renowned expert in higher education, with a focus on student experience and education policy. Until recently, she was one of only two Slovenians working at the prestigious Harvard University in the United States.
  • Kristijan Musek Lešnik, Ph.D., is a psychologist with twenty years of experience in education, upbringing, and leadership. He is the author of more than 50 professional works and an active member of Slovenia’s leading professional associations.
  • Andrej P. Škraba is a pioneer in digital education in Slovenia, best known for developing Astra AI, an AI instructor already used by over 113,000 students.
  • Professor Erik Štrumbelj, PhD is a full professor at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science at the University of Ljubljana. His research also focuses on the practical application of AI, particularly in sports, healthcare, and decision-making.

The teaching profession is one that connects knowledge, innovation, and relationships, and plays a key role in shaping the future. That is why, at this year’s AmCham Business Breakfast, we will once again announce the Teacher of the Year 2025, selected as part of the “I Am a Teacher!” initiative. The chosen teacher will also represent Slovenia at the Global Teacher Prize next year.

We believe that with the right support, teachers can be ambassadors of positive change in the education system and co-creators of the competencies of the future.

The conversation will be co-created and moderated by Deana Jezeršek, AmCham Top Potential of the Year 2017 and one of the initiators of the “I Am a Teacher!” initiative, Uroš Ocepek, Ph.D., a computer science professor and Teacher of the Year 2022; and Matic Vošnjak, Partner and director at Competo.

*The event will be held in Slovene with simultaneous interpretation into English.

The AmCham Business Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, May 21, at the Grand Hotel Plaza Ljubljana, Slovenska cesta 60, 1000 Ljubljana, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM.
