On 30 September 2025, the AmCham Ready for the Future Committee visited the dynamic company Medius. Medius is a multi-award-winning (at home and abroad) boutique, family-owned company that develops tailor-made solutions with the help of artificial intelligence. Their guiding principles are long-term cooperation and partnership.

The Committee opened the meeting with a review of developments in the regulatory sphere. Under the Digital Europe programme, new regulations have been introduced across various fields over the past five years, and many are already in the process of adoption or amendment. Unfortunately, Slovenia has been insufficiently responsive in drawing on EU funds for digital transformation projects.

Responsibility also lies with the business sector, yet Committee members were unanimous that digital transformation must be part of the national strategy.

The participants then turned to Europe, its competitiveness and digital sovereignty, and highlighted the importance of cybersecurity, which requires long-term investment — including ensuring an appropriately educated workforce. The fact is that interest in studying cybersecurity is declining, and even more concerning is the drop in enrolment in computer science and informatics programmes. Therefore, our Committee will continue to promote the introduction of a mandatory subject, “digital language,” in primary and secondary schools, so that young people can understand the importance of digital tools, practice critical and logical thinking, and create solutions.

The Committee concluded that we must raise awareness about shifting to a new way of learning, thinking, and operating — guided by the principle: Learn, Unlearn, Re-learn.
