SUCCESS: SLOVENIA FINALLY ENTERED THE MET ERA
MARIBOR 2012 – ECC IN SNG MARIBOR OFFICIALLY STARTED WITH A SERIES OF CULTURAL EVENTS
Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, the first opera in this year’s series of live transmissions in HD from the Metropolitan Opera, starring Ildar Abdrazakov, Stephen Costello, Ekaterina Gubanova and Anna Netrebko was received with extreme enthusiasm from the local audience (the transmission was broadcasted in over 1,500 theatres with more than 100,000 viewers), which was welcomed by the CEO of Hiša idej, Andreja Iljaš and chief executive of American Chamber of Commerce in Slovenia, Ajša Vodnik. The premiere officially launched MARIBOR 2012 – European Capital of Culture program which will host numerous cultural events in 2012. Season ‘The MET: Live in HD‘ 2011/12 is part of that program and will reach its peak with the last performance of the season, Verdi’s La Traviata.

October 29th: MOZART – DON GIOVANNI
This opera about a famous knight španskem don Juan Tenorio, a man always looking for another woman was written by Mozart in 1786. The Prague Theatre suggested the theme for this opera and it premiered on October 14th 1787 in the honor of the archduchess’ visit to Prague Marije Terezije Jožefe. The opera had enormous success and became a classic in the operatic repertoires across the world. The production of the Met is led by conductor James Levin, starring polish baritone Mariusza Kwieciena, German soprano singer Mojca Erdmann will sing in the role of Zerlina and Ramón Vargas as Octavio.
